If you are looking for a unique backdrop for your Savannah wedding, you should check out rooftop venues! Savannah has quite a few venues that have rooftop spaces, making it an excellent backdrop for your ceremony and even your reception. Imagine a gorgeous golden sunset, with views of Downtown Savannah and the river – guests will swoon! But, like many outdoor spaces, there are some things to consider when planning a rooftop wedding. So we wanted to share four tips for planning a rooftop wedding in Savannah!
No matter where you have your ceremony, you need a backup plan if it’s outside. And this goes for rooftops as well! Most rooftop venues in Savannah also have indoor spots, so make sure to have a backup area booked just in case. Most of our furniture is true vintage, meaning they can’t sit outside in the rain. It can also get quite hot in Savannah, especially in the summer and mid-day. So you might want to keep your ceremony closer to sunset to ensure it’s not too hot for guests.
While Savannah doesn’t get too windy, anytime you are on a higher floor, you are more prone to wind gusts. So make sure to have everything weighted down! Our arches are heavy and self-standing, so most will not need additional weights. However, you want to consider your flowers or paper items (like ceremony programs). You will also want to ensure your hair is venue ready, so let your stylist know you will be getting married on a rooftop and might need extra hairspray and bobby pins.
Downtown Savannah offers the most incredible views – so you don’t have to worry too much about additional decor! Let the city be your inspiration. Furniture can make a great focal point since not only does it give guests places to relax, but it can add lots of color and texture. We have lounge furniture in all colors, from vintage pieces in fun fabrics to black and white modern couches.
When deciding where to set up your event, consider where the sun is at that time of day and the best skyline views. One of the biggest perks of a rooftop wedding is the views! So you want to take advance of the great sky views. Seat your guests facing the skyline (if the sun is not facing that direction, of course!). You can also place decor around the rooftop for multiple photo spots with sweeping views.
From the Perry Lane Hotel to The Alida, there are some great venues Downtown, with more opening each year. When you are looking at your venues, make sure to consider where your rentals will go! Here at Savannah Vintage & Event Rentals, we offer a large selection of rentals, from lounge pieces to tables, arches, and more!
